Coming at you with a savoury meal, making me question my entire existence as I tucked into this bowl of utter glorious curry goodness and enjoy it almost as much as my sweet tooth loving essence enjoys... well sweet. 🤷♀️😂👌🙌☀️ But let me put my sweet tooth into context.
Steph aged between 9-14... actually addicted to sugar.
Steph aged 14 and above... aware of said addiction, unhappy with the drive to consume ridiculous amounts of sugar per day and suffering extreme fatigue and hormonal issues as a result of this highly processed, sugar dominant diet.
And I’m not alone. 1 in 2 Australians are eating more sugar than recommended with an average of 60g of free sugar per day. That’s the average. Condense the population group down to teenage males and that average sky rockets to 92g per day. Or 23 teaspoons of white sugar.
The fact of the matter is though... it’s not thought about. Because it’s added to everything. Bread. Tomato sauce. Yoghurt. Muesli bars. Granola. Mayonnaise.
And we get the taste for it. And it numbs our sense of taste. The natural sweetness of fruit and veg and whole grains and nuts cannot sing through from an overwhelming, all-consuming, hyper-sweet world of processed foods and beverages we are raised on.
And the addiction, likened to that of cocaine, makes it oh so hard to snap out. And it grows. And the viscous cycle continues until one day we realise that the dark circles under our eyes, feeling of utter exhaustion, coming home after a day of school and collapsing onto the couch to nap before going to bed at 7pm after consuming your afternoon tea of Nutella toast and peach ice tea, or pancakes with lemon and straight sugar, or cupcakes or biscuits... until you realise that’s not healthy. Happy. That’s not living.
And that’s a bit of an insight into my experience with sugar addiction and the consequences I faced from it.
Now I enjoy experiencing the utter amazing sweetness of the most unlikely foods; like brown rice, avocado and being overwhelmed by the deliciousness of bananas, berries, melons. Your tastes buds come alive!! Even this Tropical Curry using @pickldit Tropical Curry Gourmet Blend continued below👇
