I searched for #quotes that might easily sum up the way I feel if you choose to skip the caption. So if you come away with nothing else from this post, I urge you to have #compassion for others and to be #brave even when it scares you - be brave.
The quote regarding compassion seemed especially fitting since today is what would have been Nelson Mandela's 101st birthday.
The second quote is from a mom, just like me, who is doing her best to raise her children to have kind and thoughtful hearts. I would certainly encourage you to follow her as well.
Brian and I teach our children that it's especially important in times like these to speak up against the injustices and indecencies that so many people seem to have numbed themselves to. For myself currently, those injustices and indecencies are of which our President is privy to. And the fact that he might be reelected...that thought not only boggles my mind, but quite frankly terrifies me. So I'm speaking up understanding that even though my voice may shake, and even though people may not agree, and even though they may have a different opinion of me - at least I spoke up. And at least the something I said was born of love, and acceptance, and compassion.
All of that preamble to say again, very loudly, and very proudly - I. AM. AN. ALLY. Immigrants, Non-Christians, POC, LBGTQIA, women, children, less fortunate, poor, abused, neglected, and so many others who are being marginalized on a daily basis - I care about you. My family cares about you. I know that sometimes you feel alone, but you are not alone. #lovenothate #speakup #bebrave #iamanally #equalrights #equality #humanrights #youbelong #meltingpot #letfreedomring
